This is the West Rongbuk Glacier of the Himalayas with Mount Everest in the background. Thanks to the glacierworks.org project, this can be drastically compared to what the same place looked like in 1921 (click on image). I could have picked any glacier.

Given that I’ve just begun an MSc in ‘Polar and Alpine Change’, I have a particular interest in these extreme and dynamic environments.
